Former Deputy Director of the Directorate of External Debt of the company Yukos Vladimir Pereverzin, who recently released after almost eight years of imprisonment, gave the first interview to the press. He told some details about his life in prison and admitted what he was ready to go when he lost hope for parole.
“One of the main evidence was against me was my work book, from which it followed that I was working in Yukos. Only for this I was thrown into prison, because I worked for Yukos,” said Rugorzin in an interview with The Financial Times . The translation of the article is published by Inopressa .
Recall that the defendant of the "case of Yukos" was released on February 15 this year. In addition to working in an oil company, a cavity in the oil company has been led by two companies registered in Cyprus, since the end of 2004. According to investigators, it was the cowling through his companies that helped Yukos to sell oil and legalize the received funds. “Wash”, as announced in court, 8.5 billion dollars out of 12 billion stolen money.
In addition to Pereverzin, as the court considered, the heads of companies, Vladimir Malakhovsky and Antonio Valdes-Khasia, who were convicted of 12 and eight years of prison, respectively, participated in fictitious transactions. Valdes-Garcia, however, managed to leave the country and settle in Spain.
In March 2007, Perenovzin was sentenced to 11 years in a maximum security colony under Articles 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (assignment or embezzlement) and 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (legalization of funds) and sent to a penal colony in the village of Melikhovo in the Vladimir region.
The first of those who did not break, but went free
In May 2010, in connection with the mitigation of the sanctions of Article 174 ("Money laundering"), the court reduced the term of Rovervzin’s stay in the colony to 8.5 years. After that, the convict was transferred to a general regime colony in neighboring cocks, then he filed a petition for parole.
In the fall of 2010, the media wrote in detail about the circumstances in which the cummier lost the opportunity to free himself ahead of schedule. He testified in the second process in the case of the ex-head of Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky and ex-head of Menatep Platon Lebedev. He stated that during the investigation in his case he was offered to make a deal: to give false testimonies against Khodorkovsky and receive a conditional term in return. Pereverzin’s lawyers said then that he was made to understand that he should not actively defend Khodorkovsky in court.
In March 2011, the next amendments to the Criminal Code entered into force, canceling the lower limit of punishments on economic articles. However, the Petushinsky District Court in response to Pereverzin’s application reduced its term by only two months. Only after almost a year, the deadline for serving a sentence was reduced for a year and two months. Then, since the term of imprisonment calculated since 2004 has expired, the former businessman was released.
He became the first of the convicted top managers of the Yukos, who managed to get release without cooperation with the law enforcement system: he did not admit guilt, did not extinguish the damage imputed to him, Kommersant notes.
"Either withdraw a lawsuit, or they will kill me or I will kill someone"
“Entering the gate of a prison colony, you fall in the 1930s. In our country, a legal chaos reigns in which the consequence of official policy is a lie, hypocrisy and arbitrariness. The state cannot be considered civilized and modern, when such things are being done in just 100 km from Moscow,” said Perenozin FT.
In the quarantine of Pereverzin’s colony, he said, "they forced to march two hours three times a day." “The food consisted of a barely edible mass that was taken almost immediately after they brought,” the former prisoner recalls. - The barracks were crowded, and it was impossible to enter the toilet in the dark - there was so much sewage there. "Covering worked in the sewing workshop, and the air, according to him, was so saturated with chemicals that it was difficult for him to breathe asthmatics.
The ex-manager of the Yukos said that after the transfer from the Melikhov colony to Vladimir, he lost hope of Udo: “I realized that I have only two possibilities: either to recall the lawsuit, or they would kill me or I would kill someone. But I didn’t want to take it. I suffered so much in order to get parole. I hung up several shave blades and was going to open my stomach so that my insides almost fall out. Then they would have to transfer me to the hospital. " However, he did not have time to make a rather deep incision - other prisoners prevented him.
With representatives of Russian publications, Perenzin did not yet communicate after liberation. News about him came to the media only through the press center of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev . In particular, last week, the press service of the movement in support of disgraced businessmen announced details about the liberation of Pereverzin.
“My heart was torn, I wanted to cry and laugh. I myself did not believe and did not realize that I was free ... After all that happened to me during the imprisonment, I expected any dirty and provocations. And they did not miss the opportunity, at least a little, but to bepicing,” said Rugorzin. According to him, on the day of liberation he was woken up not at 10 in the morning, as expected, but at 06:00. Then he was interrogated for a long time to make sure that they free the one needed.
After he managed to get to his relatives, recalls a cow, prison clothes were put in a bag and burned on the side of the road.
"I will vote for Prokhorov"
Crane still denies all the accusations and insists that his business was legal and completely transparent.
“It’s not that my participation in criminal activity was not, there was no such activity as such ... It seemed to me that they were about to let me go, that this was some kind of monstrous mistake,” the press center of Khodorkovsky and Lebedev quotes the former top manager.
On Monday, February 27, Ravorzin talked with representatives of the Russian media for the first time after liberation. During the press conference in Moscow, he stated that he intends to file an application with the Investigative Committee with a request to institute criminal proceedings against the colony officers who impeded his parole.
“This was the second colony, where I was transferred from a maximum security colony located in the village of Melikhovo. In total, I was serving a sentence in three colonies in the Vladimir region,” Interfax quoted Perenzin. According to him, he was translated with a brilliant characteristic: "I thought that nothing prevents my parole."
“Soon I am called the chief of the detachment and says to sign the recovery. The recovery document says that I allegedly arranged a brawl upon admission. I signed, but said that I did not agree and filed a lawsuit. However, I was forced to withdraw a lawsuit,” he said. At the same time, Ravorzin emphasized that "does not exclude the reaction to the application and took appropriate security measures."
He also said that "from the first day of detention, pressure was on him." “As soon as I was detained in 2004, some people came to me, offered to admit their guilt, testimony for the first persons of Yukos, otherwise they would give me 12 years. Later, investigators came to my colony and put pressure in connection with the second process in the Yukos case,” he said.
The former businessman intends to find work and take an active part in the political life of the state.
“Perhaps I will have problems. I am an economist by profession. Of course, my health has been undermined, the skills are lost, but I’m full of strength and I hope to find my place in life,” the former prisoner said. “I intend to take part in the country's political life, go to promotions for honest elections. And in the presidential election I will vote for Mikhail Prokhorov.”
