Limonov intends to hold a rally at the Central Election Commission on March 5 without approval from the mayor's office

A group of oppositionists on Thursday notified the Moscow mayor's office of plans to hold a protest rally near the building of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation on March 5, despite the fact that it could not be agreed upon with the authorities. As Alexander Averin, a representative of the unregistered Other Russia party, told Interfax , in a letter to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, opposition activists stated that the decision to refuse approval for the action was made “for political reasons.”

“Where else to protest against unfair elections if not at the building of the Central Election Commission? We will come to the Central Election Commission on March 5, as planned,” says the letter, signed by the leader of the Other Russia Eduard Limonov, oppositionist Vladimir Bukovsky, lawyer Evgeny Arkhipov , head of the Moscow branch of the OCF Lolita Tsaria and others.

On February 27, the oppositionists received an official refusal from the Moscow mayor’s office to hold a rally at the Central Election Commission the day after the presidential elections. According to Limonov, the refusal stated that “the information contained in the notification about holding a public event gives grounds to assume that the goals of the rally violate the prohibitions provided for by the legislation on elections in the Russian Federation, in addition, the place specified in the notification is not suitable for holding a public event ".

“What prohibitions does this purpose of the rally violate? No reference to the number of the law, to the article of the law, it violates “prohibitions” and that’s it,” the leader of “The Other Russia” said in his blog.

Problems with coordinating the protest action on March 5 with the authorities arose among another group of oppositionists - from the organizing committee “For Fair Elections”, who intend to hold a rally in Lubyanka or Manezhnaya Square.
