Voting continues in the Novosibirsk, Omsk, Kemerovo and Tomsk regions, in the Altai Republic and Altai Territory, Irkutsk Region and Krasnoyarsk Territory, Khakassia, and Buryatia. The Far Eastern regions have been carrying out the election process for several hours.

Meanwhile, the head of the Central Election Commission, Vladimir Churov, said that the Central Election Commission received two complaints related to the violation of the “day of silence” on the eve of elections, when campaigning is prohibited. He did not specify who was complained about and what nature of the violations were.

Increased security measures taken by the police are also noted: Bolshoi Cherkassky Lane, in which the building of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation is located, was blocked by a watering machine and a traffic police vehicle. A riot police truck arrived at the CEC building. In addition, in Moscow on election day, about 36.5 thousand law enforcement officers, private security guards and volunteer vigilantes will be on duty on the streets.

Five candidates are vying for the post of President of the Russian Federation, four of them were nominated by parliamentary parties: Vladimir Zhirinovsky - from the LDPR, Gennady Zyuganov - from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Sergei Mironov - from A Just Russia and Vladimir Putin - from United Russia, as well as independent candidate Mikhail Prokhorov. Their names are listed in alphabetical order on the voting ballots.

The main difference between the current presidential elections and previous ones is that for the first time in Russian history, the president is elected for a six-year term, and not for four years, as before.
