The special representative of the UN and the League of the Arab states Kofi Annan arrived in the capital of Syria Damascus, the Syrian officials said in an interview with EFE agency.
Annan will hold a meeting with Syria President Bashar Assad on Saturday. During the negotiations, the UN and Assad special representative will try to find ways of peacefully resolving the conflict in the country, Interfax reports.
It is reported that Annan will also meet with representatives of the Syrian opposition.
As the UN Secretary General Pan Hi Moon said on the eve, Annan will seek an immediate ceasefire both from the government and the forces of the opposition.
The military conflict in Syria has not stopped for more than a year, during which time at least 7.5 thousand people have died.
