When detaining Akhmat Bakiyev, the brother of the former president of Kyrgyzstan, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic were allowed to shoot to kill. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Melis Turganbaev, Tengrinews reports.

Speaking at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on defense and security, he stated the following: “The first time the police ‘took’ Akhmat Bakiyev, he left with weapons. We could have destroyed him right away, but we didn’t. Although we should have. And now again You have to search, it’s extra expense and effort.”

One of the participants in today’s meeting, deputy from the SDPK faction Irina Karamushkina, noted that Akhmat Bakiyev is unlikely to be on the territory of the republic at present. According to the parliamentarian, he could have been “taken out on donkeys through the passes.”

“The whole family will soon get together. They worked well, unlike us,” Karamushkina added.

Akhmat Bakiyev was detained as a result of a special operation carried out in Jalalabad on the night of July 23, 2010. In addition to weapons, false wigs, mustaches and beards were confiscated from the ex-president's brother. He did not resist the security forces.

The ex-president's brother was sentenced to seven years in a maximum security colony in 2010, in particular for organizing mass unrest in the south of Kyrgyzstan in May-June 2010, fraud and inciting ethnic hatred. Later, as a result of an amnesty, the term was halved, and Akhmat Bakiev himself was transferred to serve his sentence in a colony-settlement (in fact, he only had to report there regularly).

At the end of February 2012, Bakiyev was admitted to the hospital, where he was regularly checked by prison staff. However, on March 3, the convict was not there. Three days later, it was officially announced that the ex-president’s brother had escaped. His whereabouts are still unknown.

Meanwhile, information appeared in the Kyrgyz media that Akhmat Bakiyev could have left the country on a private plane in early March. This information, as reported by 24.kg, is being checked by the transport prosecutor's office. The head of the department, Kubanychbek Mamakeev, said that Akmat Bakiyev was not on the list of passengers flying from Kyrgyzstan to other countries.

A Bishkek court earlier today authorized the arrest in absentia of the brother of the ousted Kyrgyz leader. In connection with his escape, criminal cases have been initiated, including against employees of the State Penitentiary Service, who were suspected of negligence. Prime Minister of the Republic Omurbek Babanov noted that representatives of the leadership of the State Penitentiary Service must bear personal responsibility for this incident.
