The Moscow authorities have changed the purpose of the construction work that is being carried out at the Central Children's World on Lubyanka. Now the government order states that the building, which is a cultural monument, is not being reconstructed, but is being adapted for modern use with the restoration of the facades, RIA Novosti reports .

At the same time, according to a source in the capital’s administration, the work will be carried out in accordance with the approved subject of protection (a description of the features of the object that are the basis for its inclusion in the register and subject to mandatory preservation) of Detsky Mir. It is expected that the area of the building will increase and 182 parking spaces will appear.

The change in the wording of the purpose of construction work has already been noticed by Arkhnadzor . According to the coordinator of the public movement Natalya Samover, city defenders insist that the subject of protection itself change. “The point should be to change the attitude towards the building, and not just words, since in essence what is happening there is nothing more than reconstruction,” Samover noted.

According to Natalya Samover, it is still possible to stop work on the internal dismantling of the building and save it from destruction.

"Arkhnadzor" has previously contacted the prosecutor's office with a request to adjust the subject of protection of the facility, as well as the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, with a request to suspend work. The Hals-Development company, which is an investor in the restoration, stated that the work will continue; The company explained the change in wording by saying that the prosecutor’s office opposed the word “reconstruction.”

"Children's World", built in 1953-1957 according to the design of architect Alexei Dushkin, was closed for reconstruction on July 1, 2008. The completion date for construction work, originally scheduled for 2011, has been pushed back to 2013 due to a change in ownership. The subject of the dispute between Arkhnadzor and the developer is the interior interiors of the building, which, according to movement activists, should also come under state protection.

On March 12, the website of the Union of Architects of Russia published a letter from the Spanish Association for the Preservation of the Architectural Heritage of the 20th Century - AEPPAS20, which appealed to the mayor of Moscow with a request to reconsider the reconstruction project of the monument in order to prevent the destruction of Children's World.
