The opening of the week of Belarus was the opening of the Vilnius

In the capital of Lithuania, the week of Belarus began, dedicated to the celebration of the Belarusian Volya Day.

The events of the Week of Belarus, organized by Lithuanian politicians, human rights activists, journalists, will end on March 25, when the Independence Day of the neighboring republic is celebrated. They include art exhibitions, concerts, discussions. At the opening of the week, the mayor of Vilnius Arthrats Zuokas and the former head of the Supreme Council of Belarus, now oppositionist Stanislav Shushkevich, performed. The latter was not released from Belarus to Lithuania, and he had to make a circle through Russia and Latvia to get to Vilnius, the Radio Liberty correspondent in Vilnius Irina Peters.

At the opening of the events, representatives of the embassies of the European Union, the European Humanitarian University in Vilnius, the Belarusian emigration and the Lithuanian Belarusian Community.

Commenting on the recent execution of the death sentence in Belarus against Konovalov and Kovalev, Shushkevich noted: “The performers of the terrorist attack deserve the most severe punishment, but I am not sure that the court found true culprits. Yes, we have a death penalty, but this is not done so quickly. There was no real investigation, and witnesses were driven into the grave. ”
