Elections in South Ossetia

In South Ossetia, the president will be selected on the fourth attempt . The second round of repeated elections is scheduled for April 8. Everyone in South Ossetia hopes that after April 8, the republic will finally gain the president who cannot be chosen since November 2011.

The victory of David Sanakoev in the first round of the elections, which took place on March 25, was a surprise to many experts. Medoev was considered a person with good ties in Russia, in a Foreign Ministry, who is known as a good diplomat capable of compromise. And David Sanakoev, Ombudsman, young, 35 years old, and always emphasizes that no one is standing behind him.

But the first round of repeated elections again presented everyone with a surprise, however, as elections in two rounds that took place in November 2011.

Then, in the first round on November 13, 2011, not one of the seven candidates was able to win. Therefore, two weeks later the second round took place, in which the head of the Republican Ministry of Emergencies Anatoly Bibilov and ex-minister of education of South Ossetia Alla Gioeva took place.

Anatoly Bibilov went to the polls as a Kremlin candidate. Shortly before the second round, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with him in neighboring North Ossetia. He shook his hand tightly in front of the cameras and wished him to be in the upcoming elections. Such demonstrative support for the President of Russia added points to the Emeesov. After all, Medvedev in South Ossetia is a president in which Russia recognized the independence of the republic. But Bibilov, as a person from the team of the current president Eduard Kokoita, accused by the opposition of the thermal of the money sent from Russia, he very much lost to independent and opposition candidates.

She was even under house arrest for two years, up to the court, who sentenced her to a conditional time and the payment of a fine.

Dzhioev was supported by the head coach of the Russian team in freestyle wrestling and the personal enemy of Kokoita Dzambolat Tedeev. He is an influential person in the republic and at one time with his equally influential brother Ibrahim (killed in the middle of the zero) helped Coccuta to come to power. But then Kokokuta preferred the patronage of the Russian authorities to friendship with the Tedeev brothers and quarreled with them. In these elections, Dzambolat Tedeev himself tried to put up his candidacy, but did not pass 10-year-old settings.

The outcome of the second round seemed unpredictable, the possibilities of candidates were so equal. When, after the vote counting, it became clear that Alla Gioeva won 17 percent, scared both in the Kremlin and in the government of the republic. The Supreme Court annulled the election results and forbade Gioeva to participate in repeated due to massive violations.

But Alla Gioeva decided to protect her victory. Together with her many supporters, she came to the CEC building and demanded to cancel the illegal decision on the invalidity of the elections, and the cocoys to resign. People arranged a long -term picket near the building and stood in the cold for two weeks, under snowfall, for which the protest was called a “snow revolution”. But the revolution did not happen because the Kremlin’s envoy arrived and divorced the opposition to an agreement with Kokoita. The emissar of Moscow convinced Gioev to agree to hold the third round of elections in exchange for the immediate resignation of Kokoita.

Kokoita left, but his entire team remained, which in fact did not change the state of things. The duties of the president are now fulfilling the Prime Minister - Minister of Brovtsev - also the Kremlin protege.

Recolining, Alla Gioeva unsuccessfully tried to withdraw her signature under the agreement, and from Brovtseva demanded to transfer power to her. However, the prosecutor's office of the republic accused her of trying to coup, and on the eve of the day of the inauguration, its headquarters tried to take the republican romance stormed .
