The inter -religious Council of Russia likened the Pussy Riot action to the "abominations" of Napoleon's army

The inter-religious Council of Russia, gathered on March 22 at a meeting in the Moscow Choral Synagogue, accepted a statement condemning the action of the Punch Riot punk group in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

"What happened in the main Orthodox church of the country, when a group of women in masks and causing clothes began to dance on the amvon, shouting the words blasphemous and offensive to Christians, deeply shocked the believing of all our religious communities," the text of which quoted the Interfax -religion portal. Participants in the meeting of the Council, which includes representatives of the so -called traditional religions of Russia, emphasized that the act of these people is "not just hooliganism, their goal is to rekindle in society on religious grounds."

"We urge those who committed this atrocity to change his mind and bring public apologies. We are sure that the act of these persons hit most citizens of our country, regardless of their beliefs," the statement said.

Recalling that the Cathedral was built in the 19th century and was restored in the twentieth century as a monument to the Victory of Russia in the Patriotic War of 1812, members of the Council noted that 200 years later the blasphemy repeated "the abominations that arranged the invaders of Moscow, turning the temples of the capital into the kitchen, stables and beer."

“We consider it correct to condemn this crime as a fraud of the society that incurred the discord between believers and unbelievers. We are convinced: it is necessary to expose all the organizers, accomplices and possible customers of the mentioned act. We hope that society and the court will be able to find adequate measures of re -education of the stubborn,” the statement of religious figures said.
