Bashar Assad’s wife can deprive British citizenship like a terrorist

The British Ministry of Internal Affairs is looking for possible ways to deprive the wife of Syrian President Bashar Assad Assa British citizenship, the Daily Telegraph writes on Saturday, referring to sources in the ministry.

According to the publication, the authorities can take advantage of one of the articles of the British immigration legislation, which allows to deprive of citizenship in case a person poses a threat to society. However, according to experts, these measures were called up for use with double citizenship terrorists, and there were no cases of involving this article, so the possibility of applying it in relation to the wife of the Syrian president is unlikely, Interfax notes.

According to the British newspaper, the Ministry of Internal Affairs also develops an emergency plan in case Assad still decides to go to the UK.

Earlier, the head of the British Foreign Ministry William Heig said that the wife of Syria President Auchar Assad has the right to enter the UK despite the EU sanctions, as he is a British subject.

On Friday, the EU sanctions regarding Damascus were expanded, in particular, people who are forbidden to enter the territory of EU member states were on the list of four members of the Bashar Assad family: his wife, mother, sister and daughter-in-law.
