The Moscow City Court on Wednesday, March 28, recognized as legal the decision of the Tverskoy Court, which ordered the actress Chulpan Khamatova and the Kommersant publishing house to pay the Federation Foundation 2 million rubles in a claim for the protection of honor and dignity. The defendants' cassation appeal was thus rejected, RBC was told in court.

The Federation Foundation sued the publishing house and the actress over the article “ Vladimir Putin's song was ruined,” published in March 2011. in the Kommersant newspaper. In it, Ch. Khamatova, according to the plaintiffs, gave a negative assessment of the activities of the fund, which at the end of 2010. organized a charity concert with the participation of world stars and V. Putin personally.

The publication then wrote that the funds collected by the organizers of this event never reached the hospitals to which the money was intended. Olga Kuznetsova, the mother of one of the girls with cancer, attracted public attention to this problem. The foundation responded by stating that the charity ball was not organized to raise funds, but to draw attention to the problems of sick children, as well as the clinics in which they were treated. After the scandal, money was nevertheless transferred to the accounts of these hospitals.

Tverskoy Court of the capital in October 2011. satisfied the claim of the Federation and ordered the newspaper to print a refutation of the words that the trustees of the fund “have a dubious reputation.” The court also decided to collect 1 ruble from the defendants as moral compensation. The meeting had a wide public response. Famous Russian actors Konstantin Khabensky and Evgeny Mironov, as well as director Kirill Serebryannikov came to support Ch. Khamatova.

Ch. Khamatova herself previously stated that such a situation would not have arisen if information about the activities of the “Federation” had been open. According to the actress, if one charity is allowed to hide information about its income, this will negatively affect charity as a whole. The Kommersant Publishing House, in turn, stated that the fund’s demands are “far-fetched” and are only a way to attract attention.
