The Russian Federation is placing sovereign Eurobonds in three tranches: 5- and 10-year in the amount of $2 billion, 30-year with a total value of $3 billion, banking circles told RBC.

The fact that Russia plans to place sovereign Eurobonds in the middle of this week became known from unofficial sources on March 26 of this year.

“We expect the order book to close on Wednesday or Thursday,” said a representative of one of the financial companies familiar with the details of the placement.

Before the start of collecting applications (March 19-27), the Ministry of Finance held meetings with investors from the United States and Great Britain. Moreover, in February 2012. Deputy Minister of Finance Sergei Storchak reported that the road-show of sovereign Eurobonds will most likely begin no earlier than mid-March 2012.

The road show will be held in London, Frankfurt, as well as at least three points in the USA and two points in Asia - Tokyo and Singapore, the deputy head of the Ministry of Finance noted.

The organizers of the placement of Russian sovereign Eurobonds included Citibank, Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, VTB and Sberbank . The volume of borrowings of the Russian Federation on foreign markets in 2012. planned in the amount of up to $7 billion.

The Ministry of Finance issued Eurobonds totaling $5.5 billion for five and ten years. The purpose of the issue was to finance the budget deficit after the financial crisis. After this issue, Dmitry Pankin, who then held the post of deputy head of the Ministry of Finance, noted that in the future the Russian Federation may consider the possibility of issuing securities with a long circulation period, perhaps 30 years.

It was planned that the loans would continue, but then the situation changed in Russia's favor - oil prices rose, and the need for external borrowing disappeared for a while.
