Lawyer Gulom Boboev promised to continue to fight with the courts of Tajikistan after the appeal against the verdict of the defense of Russian and Latvian pilots Viktor Sadovnichy and Alexey Rudenko was rejected. They were found guilty of illegally crossing the state border.

In an interview with the RSN radio station, G. Boboev emphasized that he would seek a complete acquittal of the pilots of the airline Rolkan Investments Ltd. “I will fight! Next week I will write to the chairman of the regional court,” the lawyer emphasized.

“As soon as I receive an answer, I will then appeal to the Supreme Court. I will continue to work to achieve a complete acquittal of the pilots,” said G. Boboev.

Let us recall that on March 28, the court of the Khatlon region of Tajikistan refused to change the verdict of the Kurgan-Tube city court against V. Sadovnichy and A. Rudenko. The court agreed with the decision to find the pilots guilty of smuggling and illegally crossing the state border.

At the beginning of November 2011 V. Sadovnichy and A. Rudenko, who were flying from Afghanistan, landed the plane on the territory of Tajikistan. They were detained and charged with smuggling aircraft parts, violating international air transportation regulations, and illegally crossing the border. The court sentenced them to imprisonment for a period of 10.5 years.

The verdict caused an extremely negative reaction from the Russian authorities: they even went so far as to threaten to expel Tajik migrants and limit trade ties with the republic. As a result, two weeks later, the regional court reduced the sentence to 2 years 6 months and sent them home under an amnesty. However, V. Sadovnichy and A. Rudenko are prohibited from operating aircraft for 4 years.
