Dozens of Syrian officials of the regime of Syria President Bashar al -Assad, as well as himself and his family are forbidden to attend the Olympic Games in London. This was stated by British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Syrian athletes, however, will be allowed to participate in competitions, ITAR-TASS reports.
"I do not think that we should punish athletes for the sins of the regime, so Syria will take part in the games," Cameron told reporters after meeting with the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogge.
Rogge suggested in this regard that during the Olympic parade the Syrian sports delegation could go on the path of the stadium under the flag of the IOC.
In total, 126 people related to the Bashar al -Assad regime were on the Black List. Among them is the wife of the President of Asma Assad.
British diplomats admitted that, despite the sanctions of the European Union prohibiting the wife of the President of Syria entry into the EU, it has the right to visit the country, as it has retained its citizenship.
Local media also note that the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing an emergency in case of visiting Asma Assad of the kingdom.
