Lithuania issued European orders to arrest the Soviet riot police

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Lithuania issued European orders to arrest the defendants about the actions of the Soviet security forces in 1991. As Lithuanian television clarifies , the arrest of former commanders of Vilnius riot police Boleslav Makutinovich and Vladimir Razdodov, who have Russian citizenship, was authorized.

The investigation charges both crimes against humanity. This type of crime does not apply to the statute of limitations.

We also note that the Russian Constitution does not allow citizens of their country, so European orders were needed to arrest them in case of traveling to the EU.

According to investigators, on the night of July 31, 1991, a detachment of riot police, who arrived from Riga, burst into the premises of the checkpoint and shot the Lithuanian police and customs officers there. In total, seven people were killed, one was injured.

In this case, one ex-employee of the Riga riot police Konstantin Mikhailov (Nikulin) has already been convicted. Vilnius District Court sentenced him to life imprisonment. The remaining three are located in Russia.
