
Russian woman Alena Leonova unexpectedly seized leadership after the execution of a short program at the World Figure Skating Championships, which takes place on the French Riviera.
Alena purely performed her incendiary composition called "Pirates of the Caribbean", perfectly dealing with all the elements, including two cascades from two triple jumps, and breaking the ovation of the auditorium.
The Italian Carolina Costner, who was considered the favorite of the tournament, takes the third position, in second place by Japanese Kanko Murakami. Russian woman Ksenia Makarova made a blossom in one of the jumps and while there is a sixth. Polina Korobeinikova took 19th place.
“I am very pleased with today's performance,” Leonova said. “For all the elements of the judges, they put me the fourth level, great. I really wanted to come here again, dreamed of performing here - I love this city. Here is magnificent weather, a beautiful atmosphere, everyone smiles, and I also catch myself on my face a constant smile.”
Meanwhile, prize -winners among dance couples have already decided in Nice. The Golden medals of the World Cup were won by the Canadian pair of Tess Virchu / Scott Moir (182.65 points). Silver was taken by the Americans Miril Davis and Charlie White (178.62), bronze went to the French Natalie Peshal and Fabyan Burza (173,18).
