A smuggler with a zoo of exotic animals was detained in the Kursk region

Police officers in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region detained a smuggler who was transporting exotic animals without documents in a car. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of animals on the black market could be more than 1 million rubles.

"The man was transporting an entire zoo in his Skoda Octavia. Exotic amphibians, monkeys, parrots and two rare black swans were transported in terrible conditions. Tight banana boxes and bags not intended for transporting animals were seized for research. Not only the fact of smuggling of live animals was revealed goods, but also a precedent of a medical nature,” the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kursk region reported .

The police note that exotic animals could be carriers of exotic diseases. “The carrier did not have any documents with him confirming that they were healthy, as well as documents that could be used to track the movements of the mini-zoo. Several times the detainee changed his testimony and provided new documents for the cargo, which, when checked, turned out to be fakes,” - reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

After the smuggler was detained, all the animals were placed in the quarantine zone of the Kursk circus - this is the only place where they could be kept in comfortable conditions. The animals are currently being checked by specialists.

The police added that the attacker tried to pay off the police so as not to lose the expensive goods. “He offered a bribe to sanitary and epidemiological inspectors for the return of the animals. For this, the man will be prosecuted under Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Giving a bribe),” said the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
