Udaltsov appealed the collection of a fine for disobeying the police on Novy Arbat

Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov appealed the administrative fine that replaced his arrest for disobeying the police during an opposition rally on March 10 on Arbat Square.

“A complaint has been filed with the Moscow City Court,” Udaltsov’s lawyer Nikolai Polozov told Interfax .

The oppositionist's defense did not agree with his prosecution after his arrest on March 10. At first, Sergei Udaltsov was given administrative arrest, then the punishment was replaced with a fine of 1 thousand rubles.

“In the complaint, we ask that the decision of the district court be declared illegal, that it be canceled and that proceedings in this case be terminated,” Polozov said.

The lawyer explained that Udaltsov’s guilt was not proven during the judicial investigation, and the testimony of the only police officer was contradictory. “What the policeman wrote in the report was in complete contradiction with what he said in court, and his testimony actually confirmed Udaltsov’s own explanation,” the defense lawyer said.

Polozov emphasized that the oppositionist did not commit any illegal actions, and bringing him to administrative responsibility was illegal.

Sergei Udaltsov and his supporters were detained on Arbat Square on March 10, when, after holding a protest meeting agreed with the authorities on Novy Arbat, they tried to march to Pushkin Square. According to official data from the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow, the police detained Udaltsov and two other citizens “for organizing a provocation and resisting police officers.”
