As the head of the Department of Nature Management and Environmental Protection, Anton Kulbachevsky, explained, in the central part of the city, approximately 20% of roofs are suitable for landscaping.

Some participants in the commercial real estate market perceive the idea of ​​landscaping roofs due to the harsh climatic conditions of Russia. According to representatives of the State Unitary Enterprise Moszelenkhoz, it is required to create special nurseries for breeding planting material suitable for such tasks.

Green roofs are a system where layers with vegetation become part of the roof and include a layer for the root system of plants; A layer of drainage, aeration and moisture accumulations, an insulating layer, a waterproof membrane and, finally, a layer of structural support.

In addition to the raw component, such roofs also improve the heat and sound insulation of buildings, the climate of the dwelling and its ecological parameters, water and energy conservation, and also provide residents of the city with additional living space.

In the field of international experience, the roof landscaping program, operating in the Canadian Toronto, which became the first city in North America, where roof landscaping is settled at the legislative level, is widely known. In 2009, the city authorities adopted a decree on the obligatory landscaping of roofs of residential and industrial buildings, the roof area of ​​which is equal or exceeds 2000 square meters.
