Ex-mayor of the city of Shakhty was killed in Moscow

In Moscow, the ex-mayor of the city of Shakhty of the Rostov Region Sergey Ponomarenko, who was involved in the corruption scandal, reports ITAR-TASS. The corpse of a retired official was found on Wednesday morning at a gas station on the Mozhaysky highway. Sergey Ponomarenko arrived there in his car Audi A5. The gas station called the police. According to her, she heard shots, and when she went outside, she found a murdered man in an Audi car.

The death of the victim occurred as a result of a control shot in the head. According to eyewitnesses of the crime, "a man in a black jacket with a hood, a height of 160-165 centimeters, disappeared from the scene." In connection with the death of Sergei Ponomarenko, a criminal case was opened under Article 105 (murder) and Article 222 (illegal turnover of weapons) of the Criminal Code, according to the official representative of the capital's department of the Investigative Committee of Victoria Tsyplenkova.

The deceased was a defendant in the investigation. In early March 2012, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Rostov Region reported that a criminal case was opened against Ponomarenko under article 196 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (deliberate bankruptcy). According to investigators, from September 2008 to June 2010, he gave instructions on the transfer of new specialized communal equipment and a mass transfer of employees of the city municipal water supply enterprise to a commercial company affiliated with it.

In 2007, an attempt was made on Sergei Ponomarenko. Then an explosive device was laid near his house, but the performer warned the official about the upcoming explosion. From the post of mayor Ponomarenko left in 2011.
