The management of Lomonosov Moscow State University demanded that students and graduate students who paid for their studies through Mi-Bank, whose license was taken away, pay again. This was reported on the website of the Russian Student Union.

The university stated that the bank did not transfer the funds to the MSU account. Those students who refuse to pay again are threatened with expulsion from the university and are not allowed to attend the session, according to the RSS. According to the report, thousands of students and graduate students were among the victims. The total amount of funds paid by students through Mi-Bank was about 300 million rubles.

In the second half of March, the management of Moscow State University disseminated information that receipts for tuition payments through Mi-Bank will not be accepted. “However, thousands of students were not informed in a timely manner and, out of habit, paid for their education at Mi-Bank, the head office of which is located on the territory of the educational institution. The bank accepted their money and, as expected, did not even warn them about the start of bankruptcy proceedings,” - RSS said in a statement.

ITAR-TASS clarifies that approximately two and a half thousand students paid for their education through Mi-Bank. The press service of Moscow State University told the agency that the university administration intends to independently deal with Mi-Bank, and students will not suffer as a result of the misunderstanding. “We have such people, we are now explaining the situation. No one will be expelled and we will not force anyone to pay again. The interests of students will not be affected,” the press service said.

At the same time, a representative of Sechenov Moscow State Medical University told RIA Novosti that a similar situation arose at this university due to the revocation of Mi-Bank’s license. There we are talking about about 50 students who are not threatened with expulsion. “We have 48 Russian students who paid through MI-Bank. There is no question of expelling them or preventing them from taking classes,” said a university representative.

On March 1, 2012, the Bank of Russia prohibited Mi-Bank from working with household deposits. This led to an outflow of cash from Mi-Bank. From March 22, the bank suspended foreign currency exchange and also stopped accepting payment orders from clients. On April 5, Mi-Bank’s license was officially revoked.
