Residents of Volgograd achieved the return of direct elections of the mayor. The Governor of the Volgograd Region Sergey Bozhenov, who took his post in February this year, promised on Thursday that the vote would take place on the second Sunday of October 2012. According to him, the decision on the appointment of the election date must be adopted within a month, deputies of the City Duma, reports RBC .
In March, in Volgograd, public hearings were held, at which residents of the regional center unanimously supported the proposal of parliamentary deputies to amend the charter of the city. People's chosen ones made the initiative to return the direct elections of the mayor.
The mayor of Volgograd lost under the former governor of the Volgograd region - Anatoly Brovko. The mayor of Roman Grebennikov has a serious conflict with the head of the subject of the Russian Federation.
First of all, the mayor was removed from the public reception leader of United Russia Vladimir Putin. The United Russia accused the head of the city of "cynically ruining the Volgograd branch of" United Russia ", criticizing the current regional authorities." For some time, the city discussed the option of dividing the post of head of the city and the city manager following the example of Yekaterinburg or Nizhny Novgorod, where there was also a difficult relationship between the mayor and the region’s leadership.
In February 2011, Brovko signed a decision on the removal of Grebennikov from his post in connection with the "systematic failure of court decisions." However, he refused to leave the mayor of Volgograd and appealed the governor’s order in court. Later, the decision to dismiss the mayor was made by the Security Council of the Volgograd region.
In the capital of the region, a complete ban on rallies and processions was introduced. Despite this, demonstrations were held in the city in support of Grebennikov. The acting mayor of Volgograd, meanwhile, was appointed the first deputy head of the city administration Sergey Sokolov, who, a few days before the events described, was fired from his post for absenteeism. In March 2011, the court recognized the dismissal of Grebennikov as legal.
Brovko himself was resigned from the post of Governor of the Volgograd region in January 2012 - presumably due to the low result of United Russia in the December elections to the State Duma, as well as its conflict with representatives of law enforcement agencies.
After the appointment of Bozhenov in the media, it was noted that in the region the new chapter is disliked, since he is a clear “Varangian” - a native of the Krasnodar Territory, whose labor biography is associated with the Astrakhan region, but is in no way connected with the place of current work. However, it is possible that the return of direct elections of the mayor will allow the governor to increase his popularity among Volgograd residents.
