Sergey Kurekhin and his like -minded people

The independent Award of Sergei Kurekhin in the field of contemporary art is awarded to St. Petersburg for the third time. This is a multi-thawing prize, that is, it is open to all types of art, and not only musicians, but also artists, sculptors, and curators of exhibitions, video artists, pop art, and street art can participate in it. This year, the jury celebrate as something new, a strong program in the Public Art direction.

In addition, this prize is non -profit and, according to its organizers, very democratic and St. Petersburg in spirit. This time it was decided to divide the visual nomination into video art and machine art, a new nomination appeared - “The Best Text about Modern Culture”, although, apparently, details are expected here in the future. It is very difficult to compare monographs in art and Internet blogs. The nominations "Best Curatorial Project", "Art in Public Space", separate awards "Ethno-Mechanics" and "Electro-Mechanics" and the Grand Prix of Pop Mechanics remained unchanged. Director of the Center for Contemporary Art Sergey Kurekhina Anastasia Kurekhina says:

- The bonus is growing and developing, it becomes more and more international. This year, representatives of French institutions were included in our trustees and jury. I think that we will continue to advance to Europe and America, inviting their artists. We have a very democratic prize, we offer all the artists who want to submit applications. In addition, they submit applications from art institutions, from galleries, in general, from any organizations. The jury is the same, it consists of prominent experts and figures of contemporary art, including Vasily Tsereteli, Alexander Borovsky, Lesya Turkina, Lena Kolovskaya, Marat Gelman, Joseph Bakstein and others.

The fact that, according to Anastasia Kurekhina, the prize becomes international is expressed not only in the participation of foreign artists and musicians, but also in the fact that this year the prize winners will receive not only monetary rewards and special prizes, but they will provide a two -month internship at the French Institute, which specializes in contemporary art.

The award of Sergei Kurekhin has his own face, ”said Alexander Borovsky, a member of the jury, head of the department of the latest movements of the Russian Museum:

-Firstly, this is a pure Kurekhinsky mockery of genres-a polyfunctional and polyphonic moment as the main prize, where music, steych and so on. That is, it is spectacular music, I would call it. Or the performing theatrical musical sight is its genre. And secondly, there is also street art, which is very important. We are terribly lacking in street art. Because it never greeted us, was not authorized, perceived as graffiti, something so unnecessary. But in fact, not an endless structure is needed. Where are the nodules, fists, wigs, Lenin, Turgenevs, and the sculpture is witty. At the last Kurekhinsky exhibition, this is just excellent-public art. It seems to me that we must move in this direction.

-And would you take Pussy Riot as an art object for the competition?

- I am for the fact that in a foreign monastery you do not need to go with your charter. In the Protestant churches, I did not see that, and it never occurred to anyone to call this sacrilege. But we have a different tradition, Orthodox, it is not so accepted in it. I consider it obscurant to threaten them with a huge time, but, on the other hand, I note the stupidity and incorrectness of the action itself. It seems from it that actual art is necessarily related to a violation of some sacred boundaries, but this is not at all so.

At the same time, Alexander Borovsky is ready to consider some shares of the War art group as art. Returning to the award of Sergei Kurekhin, I must say that the presentation ceremony itself promises to be very spectacular.

- We will have a symphony orchestra under the control of Zhuravlev and Vyacheslav Gayvoronsky, who made an arrangement of music with Sergey. The soloists of the "pop-mechanics" will perform, there will be a very large panoramic video, ”says Anastasia Kurekhina.
