Jerusalem is a very special city for me. I lived and studied there for many years, walking tens of kilometers through the Jerusalem hills.
And today it was painful for me to look at Jerusalem. As in Leningrad, there is massive compaction construction going on there, historical neighborhoods are being demolished, and in their place high-rise buildings are being built that do not fit into the surrounding landscape.
At the entrance to the city there is a giant viaduct for the new tram. The tram is a good thing, but the white concrete ugliness does not fit into any gate.
On the square between the bus station and the Benyanei Hauma concert hall, the building of a new ministry (it seems the Ministry of Transport) is being diligently built. Are there any more bare hills left in the city? Why destroy an excellent area?
Historically, Jerusalem is a city of 2-3 storey buildings, but the bourgeoisie is only interested in profit. So these multi-storey “elite” houses appear that do not fit into the architecture of the city. I wonder how many earthquakes they can withstand?
Developers walked harshly along the main historical street - Jaffa. The Turkish Sultan and the German Kaiser rode into the city along it, and English troops marched. Now, instead of many houses, there are bars.
And here are the houses that stood in the place of these bars.
Other old houses gape with empty windows. There are no buyers for them.
But this site on the main street has been empty for about 20 years. Only before there was a pit in its place.
With new multi-storey buildings, Jerusalem is losing its history, its aura, turning into an ordinary Israeli Kiryat Sransk.
It is clear that in a high-rise building you cannot sit on the balcony and play the guitar for people.

Tourists do not know what Jerusalem was like before and do not notice the changes taking place. Well, what’s sad and offensive is that ordinary Israelis don’t care about anything.
