The end of the Russian Orthodox Church

Just a day or two ago the thought occurred to me that epoch-making events were taking place. The Russian Orthodox Church became an object of ridicule, hatred and disgust in the mass public consciousness with the same ease as the Party of Crooks and Thieves. However, although the collapse of PZHiV was a pleasant moment, it was purely tactical - this is not the first time that the “parties in power” have been discredited and nothing prevents them from then being revived under a new guise, having waited and licked their image wounds.

But the tragedy of the Russian Orthodox Church is that, in principle, it is impossible for it to “rebrand”, throw away its century-old logo and draw a new one. And they cannot send the hierarchs who have committed misconduct into resignation and hold “re-elections” in order to create a “Church with a human face.” And therefore she is destined to simply disappear, go into oblivion. Agree, the self-destruction of a church with a thousand-year history and an impressive scale of coverage of territory and flock is an epoch-making, unprecedented event.

The consequences are also interesting. It is clear that “a holy place is never empty”; disgust with morally corrupt Orthodox hierarchs does not cancel people’s craving for faith, including Christianity. That is, the Russian Orthodox Church will be replaced by its long-time competitors, primarily the Catholic Church.

This process has been going on for the past two decades, since the opening of the borders of the former USSR. The intelligent, educated, cultural part of Russian Christians smoothly and consistently converts to Catholicism - the church, although also with big problems in terms of lagging behind the social development of civilization, but in comparison with the Russian Orthodox Church, which is absolutely stuck in medieval obscurantism, the Catholic Church looks European, progressive and in all respects attractive to Russian citizens who are simply sick of the stupidity of Orthodox priests.

There are probably other alternatives - Protestants, right? I am not at all an expert in religious studies, so I do not pretend to provide any comprehensive analysis of who exactly will occupy the suddenly empty, ownerless territories. But the fact itself seems obvious to me: Russia is facing a new mass baptism - a transition to other churches and denominations.

But it would seem that you should curb your appetites at least a little. Well, why do you need boilers for 30 thousand bucks? Well, why do you need two more luxury apartments if you already have one luxury apartment? Well, why do you need a motorcade of a dozen armored geldings if you only have one ass?

If they hadn’t run into trouble, they could have calmly continued fooling their flock for at least another thousand years. But greed, greed... Greed and human stupidity... :-)

UPD. In the comments, people write that Catholicism is not at all the main alternative. Perhaps so.
