The Lublin District Court of Moscow on Tuesday found 25-year-old Yuri Tikhomirov guilty of the death of anti-fascist Ilya Japaridze and sentenced him to ten years in a maximum security colony. Tikhomirov was convicted under the article on causing grievous bodily injuries that resulted in death, the New Gazeta reports . Tikhomirov will have to pay the relatives of the murdered compensation of one million rubles.
The process took place in closed mode at the request of the relatives of the murdered who received threats. Before the announcement of the sentence, the unknown called the court and announced the laid bomb. All employees and visitors were evacuated, they did not find a bomb.
A student of the Higher School of Economics Japaridze was killed on June 28, 2009 on Pererva Street, where he lived. One of the criminals shot Ilya several times in the head from the traumatic pistol "Osa", the second inflicted 26 stabs for him. The third accomplice was waiting for them in a car. Japaridze was killed on the eve of the football match, in which he and his friends were going to hang out the football banner against racism.
Tikhomirov was detained in December 2010. He graduated from the energy college, lived in Dubna, worked as an engineer in a boiler room, has a category of master of sports in sambo. According to the investigation, it was Tikhomirov who shot from the “wasp”, and his friend Maxim Baklagin struck with a knife. Immediately after the detention, Tikhomirov admitted to the murder, then refused his words. Bablagin and the third accomplice, a certain Isaev, are put on the wanted list. As the mother of the murdered Donar Japaridze told Novaya Gazeta, Baklagin was detained in this case in the fall of 2010, but released.
As the publication suggests, investigators could go to the killers of the anti -fascist during the investigation of the murder of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova. In the materials of this case, there is a wiretapping of conversations on which Eugene Hasis tells Nikita Tikhonov that he knows the killers of Japaridze - some "northern". Japaridze was familiar with Hasis, they were engaged in one sports club. Photos of Ilya as an active participant in the anti -fascist movement were posted on many Nazi sites.
Initially, Tikhomirov was accused of murder (Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, part 2), and the case was considered by the Moscow City Court. When several meetings remained before the jury, the prosecutor unexpectedly asked to return the case to the investigation and re -qualify him to cause serious bodily injuries that entailed death (part 4 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the defense of Tikhomirov, this was done in order to withdraw the case from the jury. The defense claims that the testimonies of the key witness are confused, and the recognition of the murder was knocked out under torture.
Both parties are unhappy with the verdict and are going to appeal the court decision.
