The European Parliament has opened access to the US authorities to air passengers

The European parliament approved the extremely controversial bill, which provides the US authorities with access to personal information about air passengers, reports the Air Force . In support, 409 deputies spoke out against 226. From now on, the American Ministry of Internal Security was granted the right to use personal data recorded in the list of passengers, although with certain restrictions.

The data contained in the so -called passenger registration record (Passenger Name Record) include the name, addresses, phone numbers and credit cards, food preferences and medical information.

Supporters of the new law consider it a major step in the fight against terrorism. However, many express fears that these data can be used for other purposes, which can impact civil rights.

In principle, the law concerns airlines that make flights between the countries of the European Union and the USA. However, its action applies to all airlines that are storing data in the EU and carrying out flights to the United States.

Many members of the European Parliament, who voted against the new law, say that it raises many questions that there is no answer - for example, how the US authorities will use this data, during what time they will be stored and who will have access to them.
