Gay parade in Moscow is scheduled for May 27

Moscow gays plan to hold a parade in the capital on May 27. Notifications in the name of the metropolitan mayor Sergei Sobyanin will be submitted on the 14th or 15th. The main theme of the action will be the legislative prohibitions of gay propaganda in Russia, Nikolai Alekseev, the founder of the movement of the Moscow gay parade, told Interfax. According to him, this will already be the seventh annual gay prading. It is planned that it will be held in the form of a procession and rally. “Then everything will depend on the decision of the government,” said Alekseev.

He noted that the participants in the action will not insist on any one specific site of the holding and are ready to discuss various options with the authorities. “However, if any proposals from the authorities do not follow,” the activist said, “then we will hold events without coordination and apply to the judicial authorities of the European Court of Human Rights.”

According to Alekseev, the action will be dedicated to the 19th anniversary of the abolition of criminal prosecution for joining homosexual relations in Russia. Earlier, the European Court of Human Rights recognized the ban on gay parades in Russia from 2006 to 2008 contradicting the European Convention, after which Russia paid financial compensation.

The decision of the Eurosood entered into force in April last year. However, the Russian authorities, unfortunately, do not want to fulfill it, said Alekseev Metro. He noted that "in the event of another prohibition, this issue will definitely become the subject of consideration at a meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in early June."

For six years - from 2006 to 2012 - the capital's authorities prohibited the conduct of gay parades in Moscow. In October 2010, the European Court recognized the prohibitions of gay prides in 2006-2008 unlawful, but this did not prevent the authorities from wrapping the next gay pride in May 2011.
