Like any spiritual person, I regularly experience a deep interest in history, in understanding, so to speak, historical roots. I read Plutarch and Tacitus, Karamzin and Klyuchevsky, I reread them, I think a lot. And gradually a picture of the development and fall of civilizations is being built in my head. Let's say, some state unknown to the world vegetates on the outskirts of civilization, and then, lo and behold, out of nowhere, orderly ranks of Ovids and Virgils, Caesars and Brutes, Nero and Cicero emerge. And now before us is the ruler of the world - the Roman Empire.
Of course, such conclusions in themselves are of no practical value, being, so to speak, academic fun, a mental exercise. But they have practical value in terms of their application to the reality around us. When you look around and see if there are figures of great, revivalist caliber around or all sorts of buffoons and politicians. And from here you draw conclusions about what turn of the evolutionary spiral your country or any other country is on.
If you look there, there’s Bush and Schwarzenegger, and it becomes clear right away: yeah, yes, yes... And if you look here, there’s Medvedev, there’s Putin, and Valuev, and Kabaeva, so it’s obvious that - wow... go! You may say that you don’t need any special historical knowledge to decide that Putin and Valuev are wow. And I agree. However, I want to draw your attention, dear colleagues, to another point: you can wait for the announcement of a cohort of outstanding figures, or you can approach the matter scientifically - carry out systematic work on their development, growth and introduction to leading positions.
Let's turn to the origins, i.e., to the roots of those in power. Some in their youth ride horses or destroy other terminators, and it’s clear: here you can’t expect a person to be seven spans in his forehead. However, this is typical for them, but ours is different now. Jumping on horses and parallel bars, punching someone in the face, will not make you a president or governor; at best, a deputy of the State Duma. And for more serious positions, the school of life should be much more serious. Vladimir Vladimirovich, as you and I understand, did not ride horses, but was a fighter of the invisible front, having passed all the required KGB universities.
And look around, whether in business, in government, in the Duma - everywhere you will find trusted people, our people with tired but kind eyes. Who do their seemingly inconspicuous, but so important work for the country. So in the future of our country, I am sure: Tacitus and Augustus in civilian clothes will make every effort to establish its greatness.
Work is also underway in the field of science. No, of course, and in our field there are nuggets who are able to strategically review the situation, chart a path, break through and lead - Mikhail Kovalchuk, Vera Mysina. But no matter how good a diamond is in itself, it is much better in a cut form. And recently my attention was drawn to an interview with the famous intelligence officer Anna Chapman. She now turns out to be the head of the “Mind, Youth, Activity” fund for supporting young scientists. Anna spoke about her foreign experience of investing in biotech, about funding science and citations, about providing applicants with expert reviews, but another statement from our Mata Hari caught my eye: “Yes, we are not planning to issue grants in the near future. We travel around the country, meeting with scientists, mostly young ones - there is a huge amount of talent and devotees in the regions. For example, 20-year-old girls with sparkling eyes who want to study astrophysics, they don’t see any other future for themselves, and that’s amazing.”
This is the key point!
