The acting head of Volgograd, Sergei Sokolov, announced his resignation, reports an Interfax correspondent.
“Due to the fact that the mayor of the city will be elected today, I wrote a letter of resignation in connection with the transfer to another job,” Sokolov told reporters at the City Duma on Friday.
He noted that in the Duma “a legal process is taking place, the previously adopted city charter comes into force.” “The City Duma puts into effect a charter, according to which the head of the city is elected from among the Duma,” Sokolov said.
According to him, the majority vote recommended Vice Speaker of the City Duma Valery Vasilkov for this position.
