Sergei Sitnikov took office as governor of the Kostroma region

Deputies of the Kostroma Regional Duma voted on Saturday on the issue of vesting Sergei Sitnikov with the powers of governor. According to the press service of the regional administration, Sitnikov’s candidacy was unanimously supported by all 29 deputies of the regional Duma who participated in the meeting.

Later on Saturday, Sergei Sitnikov, endowed with the powers of the governor of the Kostroma region, took the oath of office and officially took office. At the inauguration ceremony, he thanked President Dmitry Medvedev for his high confidence, for his support - the plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District Oleg Govorun, for the decision to empower the highest official of the Kostroma region - deputies of the Kostroma Regional Duma - on behalf of the residents of the region.

“Residents of the Kostroma region deserve a better life. Therefore, I consider the person to be the most important and, by and large, only priority, and the main criterion for assessing the well-being of the region and the effectiveness of the government is the standard of living of the people,” Sitnikov said.

He called the main tasks of his government the fight against poverty, strict budget planning, increasing revenues and reducing expenses, pursuing a balanced social, tax and rental policy, “effective care for people who need special care from the state and special support measures,” etc.

The former governor, Igor Slyunyaev, resigned on April 13 of his own free will.
