Supporters of Congressman Ron Paul , who is fighting for the US presidential nomination from the Republican Party, received the majority of delegates to the party convention from the states of Nevada and Maine, writes the Christian Science Monitor.

During the Republican convention in Nevada, Paul's supporters were able to re-elect the state party leadership, receiving a majority of posts in it. As a result, 22 delegates supporting Paul and only three supporters of former Governor Mitt Romney will go to the national convention in Tampa (Florida) .

A similar situation occurred in Maine. As the Associated Press reports , during the state Republican convention, Paul's supporters got their people elected to leadership positions in the local party branch, which allowed them to send 21 supporters to the convention in Tampa. Romney received only three delegates.

Earlier, during the Republican primaries, the congressman lost to the former governor in both states. In Maine, Paul received 36 percent of the vote to Romney's 39. In Nevada, the corresponding figures were 19 percent versus 50 percent.

According to representatives of Romney, who is considered the favorite in the Republican primaries, they do not consider Paul's success a threat to their candidate, who has already entered into an absentee battle with the Democratic candidate, current President Barack Obama .

However, Ron Paul has no plans to stop fighting for the presidential nomination, saying he intends to continue fighting for the nomination. Now, in particular, he is conducting an active campaign in the two largest states - California and Texas.

The Republican National Convention will take place in Tampa Aug. 27-30. It is there that the party will nominate a candidate who will continue the fight against Barack Obama. The US presidential elections will take place on November 6 this year.
