The “March of Millions” was supposed to be a failure. After vague opposition speeches after the elections, characterized by the disappointment of a significant part of citizens in street protests, it remained unclear whether people would come to the March to once again listen to the same speakers, trample and disperse. Until the last days, it was not clear where the action would take place - the organizing committee was torn apart by internal contradictions.
The authorities, intoxicated by the decline in the wave of street protests, did not prepare sufficiently for May 6, without attaching great importance to it. Of course, the security component did not disappoint - many thousands of “law enforcement officers” were traditionally herded to Bolotnaya, as for any mass action of this kind, turning the area into a continuous military-police camp. But in organizational and political terms, the Kremlin did nothing to channel the protest into a safe direction for itself. The authorities approved a mocking rally for 5 thousand people, provoking a stampede, and were the first to use riot police on the demonstrators, who at first were only trying to peacefully pass through the metal detectors to the rally.
Finally, political strategists from the presidential administration did not bother to initiate a spoiler silent action, or to deradicalize the rally on Bolotnaya. The next Parkhomenko was not found or was not found. Apparently, no one in power approached Nemtsov/Ryzhkov with tempting offers, as was the case in December. Parfenov, Akunin, Sobchak, who were capable of once again reducing the angry voice of popular protest to the bleating of sheep, did not come to the stands.
After calm rallies in December-January, which took place strictly according to the script of the Moscow mayor's office, the ruling swindlers and thieves decided that citizens could be controlled like cattle, but it did not work out. Russian history has played a cruel joke on the regime, once again surprising with its unpredictability. People came to the “March of Millions” for whom viscous speeches were no longer important, people of action. Some came all the way from other cities, and clearly not in order to listen to calls from the stage for further calls to “not give in to provocations” (that is, to leak the action again).
The instigators this time were the Red radicals, who were more visible in the square than the liberals and nationalists. The National Bolsheviks also operated at the Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge. An inexorable front line was drawn in society yesterday. Those who supported popular indignation are normal people, but those who saw only a provocation in the Bolotnaya massacre are enemies and collaborators. Lukin and Mitrokhin have already gone over to the side of evil. Who else?
It is already obvious that everything is just beginning. The protest wave that arose after the December Duma elections has finally turned from a state of temporary emotional contestation of the election results into sustained anger. Now in Russia there are many hundreds of thousands of people who not only hate the Putin regime in the kitchen in front of the TV, but are also ready to act on the street, without fear of being hit by batons.
