It is absolutely obvious that the Russian authorities want to show people who is boss, with the typical Russian scale and inadequate cruelty.
It’s amazing how Putin has restrained himself and his assistants so far. Their hands have clearly been itching for a long time, because they sincerely believe that strength becomes recognized and respected only when the enemy is not only defeated, but also humiliated and crushed. Moreover, they could not allow the triumph of freedom on Bolotnaya a day before the sacred act of inauguration of the new-old president.
There is an ideological basis for the demonstrative cruelty.
For several months now we have heard talk about how we cannot allow a “new February” (meaning the February Revolution of 1917) and another collapse of Russia. The dormant priests woke up and called Rus' to a sacred battle with evil. Vsevolod Chaplin, who increasingly resembles priest Gapon, calls on all oppositionists to be sent to the army and gathers some detachments of young patriots. Historical analogies have fallen on the heads of Russians - they are intimidating us with a new revolution, a new Red Terror, a civil war and God knows what. Russians are called upon to stand up in defense of Putin and the authorities, otherwise “someone’s blood will be shed.”
Historical analogies are appropriate only when the story is well known to everyone. Russia is a country with an unpredictable past. We either know almost nothing really about the events of 100 years ago, or we know only from deceitful Soviet textbooks. We are all bad students in history. Loser and father Chaplin. He does not know the history of his homeland; his historical science is replaced by the New and Old Testaments.
If the same Chaplin had carefully studied the issue, he would have discovered that Gaponovism ended with the revolution of 1905. That then the priests also demanded that all dissatisfied students be sent to the army. And most of them were sent! This led to the fact that after 10 years, radically minded youth were well trained in military affairs. The Russian Empire was destroyed by the war of 1914, and then, as now, the jingoistic patriots were eager to fight, they wanted something big, they wanted to show the whole world the power of Russia, but it all ended in a terrible disaster.
The history of the CPSU and the work of Solzhenitsyn - there are amazing alliances - convince us that the Cadets - constitutional democrats - rocked the state. In our opinion, Nemtsov and Navalny are from 1917. But no one remembers that the resignation of Emperor Nicholas II was the result of a showdown within the ruling class, the Cadets proposed political reforms, and Lenin was sitting somewhere far away in Switzerland and did not expect a revolution in Russia in the next 15 years.
The response to the rational demands of the people, the creative class, as it is now fashionable to say, was then and is now the whipping up of irrational hysteria by the ruling class. In Russia, the government is irrational and itself destroys statehood.
You can put Nemtsov, Navalny, Udaltsov in prison. Chirikova can be put under house arrest to cook borscht. Isolate several thousand more people, send someone to re-develop Siberia.
But will total corruption disappear after this? Will the glaring social stratification of Russian society end? Will the national question be resolved on its own and will clashes on ethnic grounds stop? Will they stop exploding bombs in Moscow and will the terrorist war in the Caucasus stop?
The answers for normal people are obvious. But for the irrationally thinking current ruling class, which has still pumped itself up with fairy tales and horror stories from the past, above all else remains the concern of staying at the throne or at the feeding trough. Therefore, they will beat, disperse, and restore constitutional order with an iron fist. And as a result, they will strain the country’s strength and flee if they have time. And all because they didn’t teach the history of their homeland well.
