Volgograd may lose its status as a million-plus city in the next 15 years. According to the results of the 2010 All-Russian Population Census, the population of Volgograd as of January 1, 2011 was 1,020,862 people. In 2010, 10,589 people were born in Volgograd - this is slightly less than in 2009 (by 157 people), but more than in 2005–2008. Characteristic features of the birth rate are the widespread prevalence of small families (1–2 children per family), postponing the birth of the first child and the growth of out-of-wedlock births. The conclusion of experts is inexorable: such a level and nature of the birth rate cannot preserve the demographic potential of Volgograd.

It can also be said separately that Volgograd maintains its status for only one reason - this is the administrative “occupation” of the region. There is such a tradition: if there is not enough to reach a million, then we annex several regional villages.

In 10 years, very little has been done to really change the dynamics. But the same article clearly describes a plan of action if the population in poverty does not want to give birth ... “To solve demographic problems, a “smart” migration policy will be objectively required... It will be necessary to ensure a migration influx of about 300 thousand people per year.” .

Against this background, the law that the Duma is considering under the “everyday” name of “migration amnesty” looks great.
