The Greek president is again trying to form a government

Greece President Carolos Papulias is found on Sunday afternoon with the leaders of political parties in an attempt to form the government of the country. At the same time, the chances of creating a government are evaluated as low. About 70% of voters voted for parties opposing the policy of strict savings in exchange for loans of the EU and the IMF, however, these parties differ significantly with each other in ideology (from the Communists to the neo -fascists) and cannot agree on the coalition, RIA Novosti notes.

The leaders of the three parties arrived in the Presidential Palace, who scored the largest number of places in the parliamentary elections on May 6. These are the chairman of the right-centered Antonis Samaras (108 seats in the 300-seater parliament), the leader of the Levoradical Coalition of Siriz Alexis Tsipras (52 places in parliament) and the head of the Left-centric party of Evangelos Venizelos, who has 41 deputy mandates.

“The people gave us all the mandate for cooperation,” the leader of the legal entities Samaras told reporters before entering the Presidential Palace, where the meeting takes place.

The leaders of the three parties consistently received a mandate to form a government, but none of them achieved success in creating a coalition.

The key in the negotiations is the position of the left block of Siriz. The leader of Levoradikalov, Alexis Tsipras, agrees to enter the government only if his coalition partners abandon the loan agreement with the EU. However, the "New Democracy" and Pasco claim that this can lead to uncontrolled default and the exit of Greece from the eurozone.

The deadline for negotiations on the government is May 17, when a new parliament of the country should be convened. If the decision is not found before this time, the president must dissolve the parliament and appoint new elections.
