The Russian violinist won a music competition in Belgium

Russian Andrei Baranov became the winner of the Korolev Elizabeth International Music Competition. This year, at the competition of academic musicians in the Belgian capital, the best violinist was determined. Its results became known on the night of Saturday to Sunday, ITAR-TASS reports.

In the first semi-final of the competition, the 26-year-old native of St. Petersburg performed a concert for a violin with an orchestra number 3 of Mozart, and in the second-the work of Tchaikovsky "Memory of an expensive place" (three plays for violin and piano, so on 42). For the final, which was held last Thursday, the violinist chose a sonata for the violin and piano number 2 of another Russian classic - Sergey Prokofiev. With his masterful performance of world classics, Andrei Baranov conquered the members of the jury of the Queen Elizabeth contest, which awarded him the first prize and a monetary equivalent for 25 thousand euros.

The second prize (20 thousand euros) went to the 20-year-old Japanese Tatsuki Narita, the third (17 thousand euros)-a 24-year-old violin from South Korea Hyun Su Shin.

In total, 78 violinists took part in the musical competition, among whom - 7 musicians from Russia, two from Ukraine, and Belorus Artem Shishkov became one of the six winners of the competition. Only 12 people received the right to speak in the final.

The competition of academic musicians was first held in Brussels in 1937. Then he bore the name of the Belgian violinist and composer Eugene Isai. However, the Second World War, which erupted in 1939, interrupted the tradition of more than 10 years, and the competition resumed only in the early 50s of the last century, already in honor of the Belgian Queen Elizabeth.

The competition is held annually in one of the four musical disciplines - violin, piano, academic singing and composer art. Soviet and Russian musicians 13 times became its winners.
