Sobyanin proposes to expand the powers of municipal deputies

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin proposed to expand the powers of local governments with the right to participate in the coordination of projects for the construction of new facilities.According to Gazeta.ru, he stated this at the congress of the Association of Municipal Education of Moscow. The mayor’s proposal means that municipal meetings will be able to control the work of the administration and other district services.

Municipal deputies will now be able to coordinate the construction of markets, shops, garages, as well as various objects of healthcare, culture and religious purposes, plans for the improvement of courtyards and city parks, participate in the coordination of the annual lists of apartment buildings for major repairs.

In the Moscow areas, "development and improvement budgets" will be formed, the control over the distribution of which will have municipal deputies.

Elections to the municipal meetings of Moscow were held on March 4 simultaneously with the presidential. More than 200 independent candidates took part in them. Many of them were chosen by residents of the districts to represent the interests of citizens in municipalities.
