Jazz introduction. On June 2 and 3, the Ninth International Festival “Manor” will be held at the Arkhangelskoye estate near Moscow. Jazz ”, and in the Moscow International House of Music from June 5 to 22 the festival“ Africa -American ”will be held. About ten years ago, food in the style of fusion appeared in the world cuisine - a combination of incompatible ingredients. At these festivals, something like a fusion for the ears is expected. Tasting promises to be interesting
The most intriguing project of the Africa -American festival in the Moscow International House of Music - Mozuluart. In it, the works of the ingenious Viennese classic connected with the traditional music of the Zulus.
The idea is impudent, and the embodiment is delicate, subtle. This was invented by the Austrian pianist Roland Hugenbichler and Gospel-Trio InSingizi from Zimbabwe. Sometimes they act four, often with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, whose soloists will come to Moscow.
“This story began in 1995,” says Roland Hugenbichler. - Three residents of Africa - Ramadu, the university of Mhaya and Blassing - left their native lands and went to Austria. The idea to do something joint with European musicians was born after almost ten years of life in Vienna. Since Mozart was always the main Austrian brand, the choice was obvious. They only had to find a pianist who would not be indifferent to Africa's music. And they found me. I must say, what they did made an indelible impression on me! I have never heard anything like this before. ” "
For starters, Mozart would be surprised, and then - he was a cheerful person - he would begin to nod, slam and tackle his works with everyone with everyone
“When Roland Hugenbichler coped with a cultural shock, he offered the musicians a joint work. They began to write and arrange songs. They worked very carefully, still Mikst Mozart and African melodies-a very specific thing, and to take it to the public, it was necessary to achieve an impeccable sound.
The musicians played their first program in November 2005 in the concert hall of the Vienna Radio. Then, before the 50,000th audience, the folk song Bheka Kimi was performed with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. And it was a triumph who impressed both musicians and the audience. Since then, Mozuluart has successfully performed with the string quarter of the musicians of the Vienna Symphony. It turned out an international team. Singers-from Zimbabwe, the first violin in the string quartet is played by Christian Nesenka from Bulgaria, the second-Wang-Yu Ku from Taiwan, plays the Geiza Jurs from Australia, Arne Kirher, the Austrian, like Roland Guenbichler.
“We are experimenting only with Mozart,” says Roland. - And it seems to us that he would approve of our work and appreciate how we enter his works into the context of Zulu music. We try to melt these two styles and create original compositions that does not change the sense of taste and authorship is well audible. What we do is sometimes called a musical crossover. But all musicians experience different influences. ”
“It seems to me that Mozart would have been surprised for a start,” the university intervened in the conversation, “and then - he was a cheerful person - he would begin to nod, slam and tune to his works with us and the public.”

The "Manor" expect fifty jazz groups and many bright stars. One of them is the American Gabriel Goodman, who will also perform in Moscow with a solo concert. The fame of the singer brought the legendary jazz festival in Newport, where she was applauded by 15 thousand spectators.
You have a famous jazz surname. Are you from the musicians dynasty or is it just a coincidence?
My real name Bann, they say, my ancestors were engaged in coffee. Unfortunately, my hands have not yet come to deal with my pedigree. Goodman is the name of my ex -husband. I worked a lot in New York and in tours with Robert Flack and Chucki Khan, we divorced my husband at that time, but my name was already in hearing. Therefore, I decided not to change it.
And where does the love of music come from?
She was always in my life. Dad was a respected jazz musician, a thrombonist from Baltimore, his mother was a singer. She sang classics. You might even say that I did not choose music, but she is me. Even in early childhood, I knew that I would sing.
Who studied from?
I listened a lot of different music performed by both jazz singers and classic ones. I really liked the vocals of Ella Fitzgerald, I love Maria Callas. After the conservatory, I studied classical singing in Pibodi, was carried away by jazz, rhythm end-blinom, the gospel style, listened to other singers, made transcriptions and sang herself. To take place, the musician, in addition to environment and talent, is needed perseverance and discipline.
Sing, teach at Berkeley college, compose music, write books. How to combine different activities?
I never studied compositions, it came by itself. Sometimes I hear music in a dream. This is a gift of fate. For me, it is a great pleasure to write compositions for Chucki Khan and Roberta Flack. I am very proud that they perform and record my music. Chaka recorded You Can Make The Story Right and got into the ten top chart of Billboard magazine. I am glad to teach. I have been working in Berkeley for thirteen years and have been proud of my students, talented and stubborn. For them, I wrote a book about vocal improvisation, the use of technical techniques in different musical genres. In addition to the Soviets, there are practical tasks like the speed risk of Ella Fitzgerald. I had master classes in Spain, in Trinidad, Bogota, in many cities of America.
With such workload, it is somehow embarrassed to ask you about free time.
In vain. I really like to knit, watch movies and cook. And dance. I will say a secret - I really want to learn how to dance salsa. I also want to visit the Kremlin and on Red Square.
