Mubarak received a life sentence

The court in Cairo sentenced the ex-president of Egypt Hosni Mubarak to a life imprisonment, finding him guilty of involvement in the murder of demonstrators during last year’s civil unrest, the Air Force reports. According to the court, Mubarak gave the order to shoot at the protesters. The accusation required the former president of the death penalty.

Having announced the verdict, the judge called the era of the reign of Mubarak "dark years" and stated that the court was fair. The ex-Minister of Internal Affairs of Egypt Habib Adley was also sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case.

After the sentences were announced in the courtroom, a fight began.

The trial of Mubarak began in August 2011. The ex-president was taken to Cairo on a special medical plane from Sharm El Sheikh, where he was in custody for four months. In court, Mubarak lay behind bars on a stretcher.

He ruled Egypt for almost 30 years and was forced to resign on February 11, 2011 after 18 days of popular unrest. The Prosecutor General of Egypt decided to detain Mubarak and his two sons on charges of execution of demonstrators and illegal enrichment.
