Ex-Governor of the Irkutsk Region of Mezentsev can become the SCO Secretary General

The post of Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization may be occupied by the former governor of the Irkutsk region Dmitry Mezentsev, Interfax reports with reference to a source in the SCO secretariat.

“During the Beijing Schos summit, the elections of the new Secretary General of this organization will be held and, as we hope, a representative of Russia will take this post. Our representative for this high and important post will be Dmitry Mezentsev, ”he said.

Recall, on May 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of the governor of the Irkutsk region Dmitry Mezentsev of his own free will.

In addition, Mezentsev is the Chairman of the Board of the Business Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The SCO is not a military-political bloc, but every year the organization begins to resemble it more and more, fighting in every possible way with the influence of the United States and NATO in Asia. And the goal of Russia at the moment as much as possible to strengthen the effects and structure of the SCO, as opposed to the North Atlantic block.

The current composition of the SCO includes Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and China. Four more - observers in the SCO - Iran, India, Mongolia and Pakistan. It is planned to expand it at the expense of Pakistan and Iran. While they have observers status, but they are offered a new status - a “dialog partner”.
