Governor of the Moscow Region Sergei Shoigu at an extended conference call with the heads of municipal districts and city districts raised the issue of illegal landfills and quarries. Residents of the Moscow region have been complaining to the regional government about illegal quarries for several years, he said.

“We have a whole minister of ecology, by the way. We need to take care of this! We are not able to manage and restore order in this territory? Whoever wants, digs what he wants, and then dumps what he wants there. All these illegal dumps are known. People write about them, they have all been counted,” the governor was indignant.

S. Shoigu recommended that the heads of districts and districts install camera traps if it is not possible to identify violators by other means. “Take pictures, film them, your loved ones. Then involve the traffic police, take down the license plates, seize the cars. If we need to make changes to the legislation, make them,” he told officials.

S. Shoigu instructed to prepare proposals within a week for the creation of a forest management structure in the Moscow region, as well as to conduct an inspection of foresters in the region to determine their equipment and readiness for work.

“We need to look at what they are wearing, what they are wearing, what equipment they are equipped with, what is missing. We must understand whether they are ready for something or whether we need to create everything anew,” the politician said.

The governor was also concerned with the issue of clearing forests of debris. “If you like, let’s hold a competition to attract volunteers. The main prize will be a set of equipment for forest maintenance,” he suggested.
