In Naberezhnye Chelny, work has begun to modernize water supply networks. A grant from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the amount of 750 million rubles will be used to implement 5 projects.

In 2008, as part of the housing and communal services reform program, the EBRD, together with the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation, announced a competition for a free grant to carry out work in the housing and communal services sector, recalls Tatar-inform.

At the first stage, projects from 10 Russian cities were selected; in the end, only 1 city won the competition - Naberezhnye Chelny, which presented 5 projects to update the city's water supply network. All projects have undergone a thorough audit by the bank and the ministry.

According to the terms of the competition, the size of the grant directly depended on the population of the city: $50 was allocated for each person. As a result, Avtograd received $25.8 million (750 million rubles) for the modernization of water supply networks.

Today, the mayor of Avtograd, Vasil Shaikhraziev, visited one of the project sites where a major overhaul of gravity sewers is being carried out. He got acquainted with the progress of work at the site. The mayor emphasized the importance of meeting the deadlines for modernization, which is designed for 1 year 10 months.

Vasil Shaikhraziev emphasized that the implementation of this program will allow the city to significantly improve water quality, as well as switch to a closed water supply system. This, in turn, will help reduce the cost of producing hot water and will expand the resources of water supply networks so that the city can begin to build new residential buildings and social facilities.

In total, 65 km of water supply networks are subject to renewal. All work will be carried out using a modern trenchless method, causing minimal inconvenience to citizens.

The mayor emphasized that Chelny intends to continue to cooperate with the EBRD: in order to modernize the sewer, the city announced its participation in another bank program. The guarantee of receiving funds will be the successful implementation of the first grant in the amount of 750 million rubles, the press service of the city mayor’s office reports.
