Staraya Ladoga
Staraya Ladoga is a village 120 km from St. Petersburg. Few people know that this was once a serious city - the first capital of ancient Rus'. One of the versions of the “Tale of Bygone Years” claims that it was the Ladoga residents who invited the Varangian Rurik in 862, who came with a retinue, built a fortress in Ladoga and made this city his first residence. And only three years later Rurik went to build Veliky Novgorod. And in place of Kiev there was still an open field, where a steppe mare was flying and crushing feather grass . In 2003, Staraya Ladoga celebrated its 1250th anniversary. By this date, a good road had been built here from the Murmansk Highway and historical buildings had been restored.

From my house to Staraya Ladoga 140 km. The journey took a little over two hours. Traffic on the Murmansk highway is heavy, both in one direction and in the other. Halfway there it began to pour torrential rain, and I was already wondering whether I should turn home. Fortunately, closer to Ladoga the rain subsided, and when I arrived at the place, it stopped completely. True, wet clouds were still hanging overhead, so the pictures turned out gray and in places dull. However, this is our northern dreary nature in nature.
