The decisive stage of the Egyptian elections protects almost half a million police officers

In Egypt on Saturday, the second round of the presidential election is held - in the absence of the Constitution in the country and with the legitimacy of the dissolved parliament, which has lost the legitimacy.

In total, in 27 provinces of the country, more than 13 thousand polling stations work, and about 50 million Egyptians can take part in the vote. The second round of the presidential election will end on June 17, and the final results of the vote are expected to be announced on June 21. To win in a multi -month race, the two candidates remaining in the list are just more votes than the opponent.

The security during the second round of voting will be provided by about 400 thousand Egyptian policemen and military, Interfax reports with reference to the Al-Jazeera TV channel.

Residents of the country will have to choose between former ally of ex-president Hosni Mubarak Ahmad Shafik and the representative of the Muslim Brothers Muhammad Mursi.

The participation of Shafy in the second round remained in question until Thursday. Even before the first round of elections, he was removed from participation in the vote on the basis of a new law, which prohibits former officials of the previous regime for the Presidential Rede. However, Shafik challenged this decision, and the central election commission satisfied its appeal.

Since then, opponents of the candidate have repeatedly demanded his removal from participation in the elections. As a result, the Shafy case was submitted for consideration to the Constitutional Court of the country, which on June 14 announced that he sees no reason to prohibit the former Prime Minister to participate in the elections for the post of head of state.

The second candidate Muhammad Mursi said that he respects the court decision, and would not have to protest against the decision to allow the Stepfy elections.

The first voting round in Egypt took place on May 23-24. It was attended by 12 candidates. None of them managed to gain 50% of the vote necessary for victory, as a result of which the second round was appointed.
