"Dam" constable set a record at auction by works of British painters

According to many experts, the "dam" is also the most significant of the works of British artists that have ever been put up for auction.

"Dam" is included in a cycle of six large -scale landscapes (the so -called "six -foot series") written by constable on the banks of the Staur River in its native places in the south of Suffolka. These works are considered the embodiment of the calm and unobtrusive beauty of British nature, the quintessence of the English rural idyll.

"Dam" is the last of these six paintings, which still remains in private possession. Until today, the mistress of one of the greatest creations in the history of English painting was the Spanish Baroness Carmen Tissen-Bornemis.

The decision to sell the painting by the owner of a huge art assembly explained the need to translate part of his liquid assets into cash.

The fact that the work will leave the walls of the Madrid Museum of Tissen-Branimssa, where it has been for more than 20 years, caused considerable regrets of art lovers around the world and sharp criticism of the Baroness, who was inherited from her husband. The name of the new owner of the picture remains unknown.
