
The American Starkey Aerospace (Starcor), in collaboration with engineers from the University of Colorado, began testing the prototype of the L-FX00 reactive engine, designed for somewhat supercompact unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of a new generation.
According to developers, this turbojet engine will work without lubrication, have a low weight, higher fuel efficiency and greater production before major repairs. Modifications of the L -FX00 include a controlled vector of traction and a frying chamber, reports CNews - science and development .
Mini-BPPA called Gojett is developed using modern quick and economic design and testing technologies. Thanks to this, as well as cheap materials and nodes, the price of drone will be much lower than modern UAVs: 50-100 thousand dollars. This is several times cheaper than one controlled rocket, that is, even the loss of such an apparatus will not become for military financial disaster.
The joint project of the University of Colorado and Starcor started in March 2012. The first version of Gojett will reach a speed of 1.4 m. The ultimate goal is an UAV at a speed of 1.6-1.7 m, with a length of 1.76 m and a scale of a triangular wing of 1.27 m. A drip of a weight of about 50 kg will be controlled with the help of alerons and a variable traction vector. In a more distant future, on the basis of such devices, it will be possible to create heavier supersonic unmanned vehicles that can participate in hostilities.
If the Gojett project is successful, a cheap high -speed reactive drone will appear on the market for the first time, which is primarily useful to the military.
Currently, UAVs, even such expensive and perfect as the X-47B, fly at subsonic speeds. They rely only on Stealth invisibility technologies, because they do not have a sufficient speed to move away from anti -aircraft missiles, fighters or to quickly move deep into the enemy air defense zone.
A compact supersonic UAV, possibly equipped with a small combat unit, will be easier to act in the zone saturated with air defense systems and quickly destroy important targets.
