This is my favorite city on the coast of the Krasnodar region. About ten years ago I asked a question to my St. Petersburg friends: “Where do you go, if not to Crimea?” “Well, of course, to Gelendzhik,” they answered. “There are such people there! Such a city!”
Flood in the Krasnodar region. It hurts to look at once familiar places. Beautiful boulevards, port, Novorossiysk embankment... Favorite places in Gelendzhik...
It was the first southern Russian city about which I wanted to say - “Oh! Level!” Then all the laurels were presented to the mayor of Gelendzhik. And for the extraordinary cleanliness of the paving slabs, so rare in other places. For a perfectly cleaned embankment. Sifted and cleaned sand from a children's beach.
There was poor drinking water there - it was turned off in the middle of the day. The mayor fought for every functioning city pipe and every well-built fountain. Never before have I heard residents respect city authorities so much.
The city is located in a semicircle around the bay. From it the streets ran up into the mountains like rays of sunshine. And the people there lived like rays of sunshine - friendly, hospitable.
Before the weekend, students from the Institute of Culture performed on the square with a monument to Lermontov. Opera, ballet, instrumental music... Live. For free. Just for the people. The halls were always full and seats were taken in advance.
During our visit, Navy Day was celebrated. Marine terminal, boats, lines of officers in ironed uniforms, fireworks, Neptune...
For some reason, the pines there did not grow vertically, but at a “degree”. Even back then, old-timers told us that this was a dangerous place. Pine trunks twisted under the gusts of wind. This wind had some menacing name. But there was no rampant nature for many years.
And then there's the flood. What happened to those kind people we once met?
