Deputies of the Republican Legislative Assembly found no violations at the Vurnarsky meat processing plant

The working group of the State Council Committee of Chuvashia found no violations during the inspection of the Vurnarsky meat processing plant, which allowed the waste of the pig farm to be discharged into the Malaya Sanarka River. The press service of the Legislative Assembly reports that the deputies allegedly managed to catch a fry in the river. The Cheboksary Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office refutes the information of the State Council.

According to the press service of the State Council of Chuvashia, on July 6, a working group of the republican legislative assembly committee on economic policy, agro-industrial complex and ecology, led by United Russia deputy Oleg Meshkov, visited Vurnarsky Meat Processing Plant OJSC. As a result of the inspection of the agricultural holding, deputies did not find confirmation of information about the plant discharging waste from the pig farm into the Malaya Sanarka River.

Let us remind you that on June 15, the Cheboksary Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office received a report of a mass death of fish in the Maly Tsivil River. During the survey, specialists from the Middle Volga territorial department of Rosrybolovstvo, the State Fishing Service, and the department of Rospotrebnadzor for Chuvashia found 475 dead fish, and the approximate number of dead fish in the river was 47.5 thousand. Based on the results of laboratory studies, it was found that in water samples from Malaya Sanarka in the area of the Vurnar meat processing plant, the ammonia content was 480 times higher than hygienic standards. And in water samples from the Small Tsivil, into which the Malaya Sanarka flows, the amount of ammonia exceeded the norm by 7.5 times.

On July 2, during an inspection, the prosecutor's office revealed gross violations of sanitary, epidemiological and environmental legislation at the Vurnar meat processing plant. Ammonia and slurry entered the river from a hole in the building of the pig farm's liquid waste storage facility. According to the prosecutor's office, employees of the pig farm were not involved in eliminating the accident or repairing the storage facility. In addition, the management of the meat processing plant hid information about the accident, which poses a danger to people and the environment (see Kommersant on July 5).

OJSC “Vurnarsky Meat Processing Plant” has three pig farms in the Vurnarsky, Ibresinsky and Krasnoarmeysky districts with a one-time housing of 35 thousand heads of pigs and a dairy farm complex for 1660 heads of cattle, 8 thousand hectares of agricultural land for growing grain, feed, cultivating potatoes and corn.

According to the press service of the State Council, the head of the agricultural holding, Nikolai Alivanov, acknowledged the fact of the inspection, but told deputies that the department’s conclusion did not mention serious violations. Water was taken for analysis, according to Mr. Alivanov, in the absence of a representative of the Vurnarsky meat processing plant, which is a violation. In addition, the liquid, which was “allegedly dumped into the river,” is used in the fields of the agricultural holding as fertilizer. Nitrogen water is pumped daily from the storage lake and transported by special tanks.

“Deputies’ inspection of the pig farm, the liquid waste storage facility and the shore of Malaya Sanarka revealed no signs of the discharge of foul-smelling slurry or damage to the lagoon. The head of the deputy group, Oleg Meshkov, emphasized that there are no traces of a breakthrough - the bowl of the lagoon is in intact condition, and there is a continuous grass cover around it,” says the press service of the State Council. Deputies near the pig farm reportedly took water samples. “A live fish fry was caught in the bottle,” the press service notes.

Senior Assistant Prosecutor of the Cheboksary Environmental Prosecutor's Office Roman Rodionov denied the information of the State Council. During the inspection, liquid storage facilities were inspected and two dam breaks were discovered and photographed. “What exactly they (members of the working group - Kommersant) examined is not clear to us,” Mr. Rodionov emphasized. According to him, two representatives of the Vurnar meat processing plant were present when the water was taken for analysis: the director of the pig farm, Ivan Fedotov, and the deputy head of the agricultural holding, Vasily Popov, and in the conclusion issued to Mr. Alivanov, all violations were indicated. In addition, Roman Rodionov doubted that the deputies could have caught a live fry in the bottle.

Mr. Rodionov said that on July 12, the prosecutor's office intends to submit to the court six to eight acts against officials of the meat processing plant. Also, according to him, the materials will be transferred to the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for Chuvashia to initiate a criminal case.

Deputy of the State Council of Chuvashia Igor Molyakov from A Just Russia considers the current situation to be a consequence of the fact that the former head of the meat processing plant was the chairman of the state council, a member of United Russia, Yuri Popov, whose relatives work at the plant. “United Russia is going to hide some of the actions of its members,” Mr. Molyakov is sure.
