I have spoken many times about the progressive public, which screams about the panic of the authorities, its weakness, and deaf defense.
Probably, they will characterize Putin’s today’s statement about his support for the law on NGOs and the criminal article for libel, under which anyone can be convicted for anything even easier than under Article 282. Especially the fact that Putin called three official human rights activists for this statement, a sign of weakness, of course.
People have their own opinions, of course. But they do not want to notice the obvious: repressive laws were not prepared hastily, not in connection with protests, which merely gave rise to and catalyzed the transition of power to repressive methods of management. In exactly the same way, the Beslan terrorist attack gave rise to the destruction of the electoral system - all amendments to the legislation were worked out in advance.
Is it really not clear? that this is Putin’s real plan, which is gradually and thoughtfully implemented step by step and without any regard for reputational losses, protests of a non-existent society and with the full support of a population that has absolutely no need for the rights and freedoms that only a few stand for?
For laws being adopted that can change the life of the country (yes, at the everyday level) in the near future, yes. in fact, they have already changed, there is a huge and very qualified hardware work of people who are confident in their strength and superiority. For their PR too. The authorities are not at all trying to pass all this off as democratic transformations; on the contrary, they are openly relying, if not on the rejection of democracy by the absolute majority of the population, then on their indifference to it.
And no surveys are needed. The result is important. The historical choice of the people is important.
The progressive public can become different if they openly admit that such a choice has been made, and will not be afraid to express their disrespect for this choice, will not be afraid of it. that acts contrary to the will of the people.. This is necessary, first of all. to the people themselves, who, perhaps, will think about why he evokes such an attitude.
